It was great to join Tony Abbott, the Red Hill Riders and locals over the weekend on the Pollie Pedal to raise money for Carers Australia.
Tony Abbott caught the ferry from Queenscliff and was met by the Red Hill Riders and a group of locals at Sorrento.
We rode from Sorrento through to Mornington, stopping off at Rosebud to announce a Green Army project and meet representatives from Conservation Volunteers Australia, Councillor Antonella Celi and community members.
Tony Abbott and riders are currently making their way through regional Victoria and will finish up in Canberra on Sunday.

Southern Peninsula Green Army Announcement |
|
|
On Sunday, I announced one of the first Green Army projects in Australia.
If a Coalition Government is elected, an army of young environmental trainees will begin work on the Southern Peninsula Foreshore and Creek Rejuvenation Project Project.
Their work will protect the Southern Peninsula’s beaches and foreshore from further erosion and provide residents and visitors with enhanced access to the historic Collins Settlement Site.

Solar Hot Water Industry Left in Limbo |
|
|
The future of the solar hot water industry remains in limbo after the Government and Greens last week combined to vote down our Bill to reinstate the rebate.
The rebate was scrapped at one minute to 5pm on 28 February, as businesses were closing their doors for the day.
The Bill required the Government to allocate the $63.5 million already in the Budget for this financial year for solar hot water rebates.
I have called on the Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Mark Dreyfus, to immediately clarify whether the Government will commit to reinstating the funding.

Illegal Poaching and Slaughter of Dugongs and Turtles |
|
|
Stories on the ABC TV's 7.30 Report of continued illegal poaching and slaughter of dugongs and turtles in northern Australia are deeply concerning.
I spoke to the 7.30 Report last week about the Coalition's plans to crack down on this illegal poaching and slaughter, and provide $2.6 million to work closely with the Indigenous community to protect these creatures.
I am very optimistic that with a new Liberal National Party Queensland Government this issue will finally be tackled and given the attention it deserves.

Yarra Plan a Step Forward for Clean Up the Bay Campaign |
|
|
The Victorian Government's pledge to create a five-year plan to clean up the Yarra is a welcome step in our campaign to clean up Port Phillip Bay.
Cleaning up the Yarra will help tackle many of the pollution issues currently facing the Bay.
In particular, the Government’s plan to give the public easier access to water quality data will enable everyone in the community to become better informed and therefore better motivated to protect the Bay.
